Sumter CI Release Meaning

Sumter Correctional Institution is a Florida Department of Corrections state prison in Bushnell. Its prisoners are not held under the county jail’s short-term booking system. FDC records state commitments, prison transfers, release at sentence expiration, conditional release, parole where legally available, and later community supervision. The Sumter County Sheriff’s SmartWEB system cannot confirm any of those prison events.

A past release date in FDC’s release information confirms that the listed incarceration episode ended. It does not guarantee that the person stayed out of custody, avoided a later commitment, or completed supervision. Read the date beside the DC number, offense history, and incarceration record. Then search current population and supervised population. Each database answers a separate question.

The FDC Inmate Release Search is the released-first route. Enter a six-character DC number when possible. It may be all numeric or one letter followed by five digits. Sumter CI Release Dates

For a current prisoner, the public detail calls the calculated field “Current Release Date.” Florida law calls the gain-time calculation a tentative release date. It can move with awards, forfeitures, restoration, amended court orders, prior-jail credit, new sentences, or agency review. “TO BE SET” means review is pending, not that release is near.

For many modern Florida offenses, incentive gain time cannot reduce time served below 85 percent of the imposed sentence. Offense-specific exclusions apply, and the general ceiling is not an individual promise. Court credit for time already spent in county jail also affects the calculation when stated in the sentence. Conditional release may begin supervision at a qualifying point rather than end all correctional authority.

Sumter CI Facility Components

Official audit material identifies the main Sumter Correctional Institution and adjacent work-camp or institutional components. Those internal units do not need separate public release searches. The person’s DC number follows the statewide FDC record across internal assignment and transfer. Search by that identifier even if a family member recalls a work camp rather than the main institution name.

A location change to another FDC institution is a transfer. It does not create a release from state custody. Current Population Information should show the new location after the system updates. By contrast, a completed release row ends that listed commitment, and a supervision record may show the next FDC-controlled stage in the community.

Geography can be misleading here. Sumter CI sits in Sumter County, but the Sheriff does not calculate its prison discharge date or keep its state commitment history. FDC Bureau of Admission and Release handles disputed release calculations, while Central Records handles population and classification records. Keeping those offices separate from SCSO avoids a county request that cannot produce the state-prison document. The institution may confirm a local operational fact, but the statewide DC-number record remains the durable release source.
